Scan Credits
Learn how scan credits work, how they renew, and how to purchase additional credits.
Scan Credits
Scan credits are the currency that powers PreBreach security assessments. Every scan you run consumes one credit, regardless of the domain size or number of vulnerabilities discovered.
What is a Credit?
1 credit = 1 full security scan of a verified domain. Each scan runs the complete PreBreach pipeline:
- Reconnaissance — Subdomain enumeration, technology fingerprinting, and attack surface mapping.
- Active Scanning — Automated probing across 24 scanning templates using industry-standard tools.
- AI Analysis — 8 specialized AI agents analyze raw findings, validate vulnerabilities, and eliminate false positives.
- Report Generation — A professional security report with CVSS v4.0 scores, security grades, and remediation guidance in PDF, HTML, and JSON formats.
A credit is consumed when you initiate a scan. If a scan fails due to a platform error (not a user misconfiguration), the credit is automatically refunded to your account.
Credits by Plan
Each plan includes a set number of credits that renew at the start of every billing cycle:
| Plan | Monthly Credits | Extra Credit Price |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | 1 | $29 per credit |
| Pro | 3 | $25 per credit |
| Agency | 10 | $19 per credit |
How Credit Renewal Works
Credits renew automatically on your billing date each month (or each year if you are on annual billing). Here is how the renewal cycle works:
- Renewal date — Credits are added to your account at the start of each billing period.
- Unused credits carry over — Any credits you did not use in the previous period are not lost. They roll over and add to your new allocation.
- No expiration — Carried-over credits remain available as long as your subscription is active.
- Cancellation — If you cancel your subscription, unused credits remain available until the end of your current billing period.
Example
You are on the Pro plan (3 credits/month). In January you use 1 credit, leaving 2 unused. On your February renewal date, you receive 3 new credits. Your total balance is now 5 credits.
Buying Extra Credits
If you need more scans than your plan includes, you can purchase additional credits at any time:
- Go to Settings > Billing in your dashboard.
- Click Buy Credits.
- Select the number of extra credits you want to purchase.
- Complete the checkout. Credits are added to your balance immediately.
Extra credits are priced based on your current plan:
| Plan | Price per Extra Credit |
|---|---|
| Starter | $29 |
| Pro | $25 |
| Agency | $19 |
Extra credits are a one-time purchase and do not recur. They behave exactly like plan credits — they carry over between billing cycles and remain available as long as your subscription is active.
Checking Your Credit Balance
Your current credit balance is displayed in two locations:
- Dashboard header — The credit count is always visible in the top navigation bar.
- Settings > Billing — The billing page shows your full credit history, including renewals, purchases, and usage.
Credit Usage Notifications
PreBreach sends notifications to help you manage your credit balance:
- Credit used — You receive a confirmation each time a scan consumes a credit, along with your remaining balance.
- Low balance warning — When your balance drops to 1 credit, you receive an alert so you can purchase more before you run out.
- Zero balance — When you have no credits remaining, you are notified and prompted to buy additional credits or wait for your next renewal.
- Renewal confirmation — At the start of each billing cycle, you receive a summary of your new credit allocation and total balance.
Notifications are delivered via email and also appear in the dashboard notification center.
Credit Refunds
Credits are refunded automatically in the following situations:
- Platform error — If a scan fails due to an internal PreBreach error, the credit is returned within minutes.
- Scan timeout — If a scan exceeds the maximum processing time due to a platform issue, the credit is refunded.
Credits are not refunded when:
- A scan completes successfully but finds no vulnerabilities.
- A scan fails because the domain is unreachable or DNS verification has lapsed.
- You cancel a scan after it has already begun processing.
Next Steps
- Understand your billing plan and compare features across tiers.
- Add a domain and verify ownership to prepare for scanning.
